To enhance the contribution of social enterprises and social entrepreneurial initiatives in Jordan to poverty reduction and social inclusion of disadvantaged and marginalised groups – particularly girls/women – through their integration into the formal economy.
This intervention is designed with a strong focus on strengthening existing Social Enterprises and Social Entrepreneurial Initiatives as well as social entrepreneurship support structures, to create an enabling environment that allows social enterprises and social entrepreneurial initiatives to start-up, scale up, and flourish.
The design of the intervention is based on a problem analysis focusing on two interrelated challenges in the Jordanian social enterprise ecosystem. First, there is a low capacity of existing social enterprises and social entrepreneurial initiatives. Second, there is an unconducive ecosystem, as it lacks legal, fiscal, financial, and public support, that is unable to provide the required support structures for social enterprises and social entrepreneurial initiatives to grow and contribute to poverty reduction and social inclusion.
The programme is funded by the European Commission.
Impact:
By building the capacity of 40-60 social enterprises or social entrepreneurial initiatives working in three of the most deprived districts and governorates in Jordan, respectively in East Amman district, and Ajloun and Tafilleh governorates, in both rural and urban settings, this will benefit around 14,400 disadvantaged youth (50% young men and 50% young women in the age of 18-35 years) and women and their families directly.
Another 12,000 disadvantaged groups (especially youth and women) will benefit from the social impact of the social enterprises or social entrepreneurial initiatives supported by the strengthened support structures. Through the social enterprise platform activities, such as events, campaigns and awareness raising, the action will reach an estimated 25% of the total population of East Amman district, and Ajloun and Tafilleh governorate, which is a total of 1,228,301 people.
