The Safe Delivery App is an evidence-based mobile application that uses simple, intuitive animated instruction videos, drug lists, and quizzes to guide health workers in how to handle the most common childbirth emergencies. The app is developed by Maternity Foundation. The purpose of the current project is to adapt and launch the Safe Delivery App within the Benin context in order to improve healthcare workers’ knowledge, skills, and confidence and, therefore, the overall quality of BEmONC (Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care), maternal-, and newborn care. The project partners are PlanBørnefonden, Maternity Foundation, and Plan Benin in collaboration with the health authorities in Benin.
Objectives:
• To adapt the Safe Delivery App to the Benin context in line with national directives in order to benefit the country’s skilled birth attendants.
• To roll out the contextualized version within both in-service and pre-service settings in Benin.
• To improve the knowledge, confidence, and skills of skilled birth attendants in the area of maternal and newborn health.
Main project activities consist of:
- Technical workshops with health authorities and experts from Benin to adapt and contextualize the Safe Delivery app content to Benin’s national health guidelines.
- Re-programming of the app with the contextualized content.
- Train in usage of the Safe Delivery App (e.g., training of champion trainers, training of teachers at midwifery schools etc.).
