In the central Sahel region, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are facing a complex humanitarian crisis. The compounded impact of escalating conflict and insecurity, climate change, and COVID-19 are devastating communities across the three countries, disproportionally affecting the most vulnerable negatively, particularly girls and women.
The PURE programme, funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Danida), responds to the urgent needs of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and host communities in four severely affected regions in Burkina Faso. PURE aims to meet the critical needs and strengthen the resilience of both IDPs and host communities affected by the complex humanitarian crisis through more sustainable livelihoods, improved protection, and increased access to quality and gender-sensitive education services.
Impact:
PURE is implemented in 23 municipalities across four regions in Burkina Faso from January 2021 to December 2023. The estimated number of total direct beneficiaries is 145,170 people.
Outcomes:
- Children, adolescents, and youth from vulnerable households affected by the crisis have more sustainable livelihoods, strengthened economic empowerment, and improved food security.
- Crisis-affected children, adolescents and youth are protected from sexual and gender-based violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation and survivors have access to quality protection services and psychosocial support.
- Children, adolescents, and youth affected by the crisis have access to quality, safe, gender- and conflict-sensitive learning opportunities and education in primary and post-primary schools.
