32-year-old Hira and her husband, Surendra, live in the Makwanpur district in Nepal with their 26-month-old boy. They are farmers, which keep them busy, and though Hira loves her son, she did not use to provide enough attention to her newborn son. She simply was not aware of the importance of early childhood development until she got involved in a parenting session implemented with the support of Nature Planet.
One day Hira attended this parenting session in her local community, and it changed her perspective on parenting. Even though Hira was occupied with tons of work, she prioritized the orientation sessions:
“I learned how to deal with early aged children, manage their interests, the importance of the parenting role, to interact and stimulate children in an early childhood and to play and spend quality time with them.” Hira shares happily.
The parenting sessions are to ensure parents and caregivers are providing proper care and support to their children to reach their overall development goals. The project supports positive parenting and ensures violence-free households and the elimination of gender norms and expectations for children.
Hira has completely changed her parenting behavior after attending the session. Now she spends
quality time playing with her son, speaks to him politely and supports him in learning and shows him how to use household objects.
“If I hadn’t got the chance to participate in this program, I wouldn’t have learned things which are
important and required for the development of my son.” Hira explains, thanking the effort of Nature Planet.
