In Mali we work with 204 partners, who are funded by PlanBornefonden and 185 partners, who are not funded by us, but whom we work with on the programmes.
Since 1976 Plan International has been present in the most vulnerable areas of Mali. The country has a population of over 20 million people1, of which 16% are living under the absolute poverty line2, which is just $1.90 per day3.
One of the big issues in the country is the practice of Female Genital Mutilation. In Mali 89% of women aged 15-49 and 73% of girls aged 0-14 have undergone FGM. This makes Mali one of the countries in the world with the highest prevalence of this practice, which is why Plan International have been working to eradicate FGM for over 20 years.
