Our work in Burkina Faso
In FY22 PlanBornefondens programmes in Burkina Faso have reached:
In Burkina Faso we work with 8 partners, who are funded by PlanBornefonden and 155 partners, who are not funded by us, but whom we work with on the programmes.
Since 1976 Plan International has been working in the most vulnerable areas of Burkina Faso to improve the lives of children. Burkina Faso has a population of 21 million and is one of the poorest countries in the world1. Right now, Burkina Faso is experiencing one of the world’s most acute and complex humanitarian emergencies. The country faces extreme violence and poverty, and due to COVID-19 pandemic, this has worsened.
Over a third of the population is living under the absolute poverty line2, which is just $1.90 per day3. One of the big issues is the country’s infant mortality, which is extremely high due to diseases, that are preventable. In Denmark 3 in 1000 children die before they turn one, while in Burkina Faso 53 in 1000 children never turn one4.
The current humanitarian crisis has displaced over 1.4 million people, and around 3.5 million people need humanitarian assistance. Thousands of schools and pre-schools have been shut down, thereby making access to safe an inclusive quality education for the internally displaced and local children difficult.
In Burkina Faso we have three large programmes, that cover the three focus areas of PlanBornefonden
