Affordable Internet Access and Life Skills for the Youth in Koforidua, Ghana
In collaboration with the Danish tech company BLUETOWN, the project aims to provide internet connectivity to students and teachers at two Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes in the town of Koforidua, located in the Eastern Region in southern Ghana. The current project is a pilot, funded by the Danish Foreign Ministry (Danida), running from 1 February 2021 until 30 June 2022, with the intention of scaling the partnership and project across Ghana.
The purpose is to foster socio-economic development and strengthen skills and civic engagement opportunities, especially for youth, by making affordable access to the internet and digital content available.
Objectives and activities include:
- Implementation of a Wi-Fi-based internet and local cloud system at two TVET institutes in Koforidua.
- Identification of relevant digital content for students and teachers.
- Engagement of youth in seizing new digital opportunities, including jobs or income-generating activities as on-the-ground sales or technical personnel.
- Development of the NGO-private sector partnership and gaining joint experiences and learnings in preparation of scaling the collaboration into new areas of implementation.
